Remembering PenguinBattle.com

In 2004, while being a member of the RuneSigs forums, a well known member called Chrishop shared a post that he and his friends were working on an online game called PenguinBattle.
This was a super simple yet extremely addictive PHP game that let you:
- Own and battle penguins
- Buy items, weapons and upgrades
- Level and train up your penguins
- Talk with other people
- Explore the city
This was quite similar to other online free games at the time, but it was a lot of fun. I recall spending a lot of time on the site and it always gave you a reason to login the next day to maintain your penguins. The site exploded from a few dozen people to many thousands in a very short time.
Like with most games like this, the server costs became too high for a bunch of teenagers to maintain and I believe there were also a ton of security issues and bugs which plagued it, so it shut down in mid 2005. I really wish more games like this existed online but they’re mostly lost to time or way too overcomplicated and serious. Due to the load of homework and other commitments, I’ am behind on posting the next revision (not really an update). I can’t guarantee the date, and due to recent happenings, the bug testing period will be extended, therefore a slightly later date.
I’ am sorry for the lateness, its all Chris’ fault…

Ok everyone! Sorry about not being on for so long! I’m on now though and I have fixed the password reset flaw. Your accounts should now be much safer, and it’s unlikely you’ll have your accounts stolen now. Sorry for the delay and any problems it has caused you!

IMPORTANT
Let me make this VERY clear. Anyone found using the “change penguin” flaw WILL be banned. DO NOT use this flaw, it was found last week by the staff and was going to be fixed by auth, but he hasn’t been on to fix it. If too many people use this flaw, we won’t know all of the users, and will HAVE TO RESORT TO A RESET. For you’re own good and the good of the other users, DO NOT EXPLOIT THIS FLAW….

All mail was cleared for improvements to ingame mail. Also restrictions in interest have been applied, check forums for more details. More search options and new item at the shop.

I’am off on holiday on the 18th. It will be week long and I will be making updates on holiday (that’s how much i love you guys). I’am going to Queensland, its sunny and beach-y. Iam bringing 2 programming books with me (LOL. My mum called me a nerd) and update will be up when i come back! So happy holidays and good bye.

iam sorry guys i havent been online for a well. Been busy working on updates and studying. The battle bug is fixed! The problem was the table in the database reached full capcity, to say in laymans terms. So i cleared all messages and increased the size; i guess i wasnt expecting the size of growth. Any how, the tshirt will run for another week, unfortunately i can not send it too all parts of the world, so an in game prize will be rewarded instead.

The admins and myself have been noticing over the past couple of days that the chat log has been cleared. The clear code is only for the use of the admins and mod.
Therefore we would like to ask all Penguin Battle users to refrain from using the clear button on the chatroom, if any of the admins does catch somebody clearing the chat purposely they will face the consequences and get banned from the chat altogether.
