Here are some tips when you own a phpbb board. -
Always make a backup admin, If someone get hold of your password and gets
on your forum your helpless, but if you make a backup admin (with a
different password) you can stop the guy in his tracks, Many people make
backup names like pukcab (backup backwards) or a random thing like
two_cents. All forums need a backup admin to be fully secure.
- An easier way to make moderators is to go into your admin control panel,
look under the heading for groups and click management then create a new
group called E.G. moderators. Fill in the details and make a group
moderator (yourself) and make it a closed group. Click submit and then
under the group heading again in the admin control panel click permissions
and set which forums you want moderators to moderate and click submit. Now
go to your forum index and click the usergroups option at the top of the
page and go into your newly created moderators group. Then at the bottom
of that page add a member in the box and when that is complete the user
will automatically be able to moderate all the forums you chose in the
permissions page :).
- If you want to FULLY ban someone from your forum for whatever reason
click the ban control button in the admin control panel and put their
username in the box, their IP address and their email. then click submit.
Then go to management under ban control and put their username in the box
and at the bottom click make user inactive. All of this will stop the user
from coming back, but if they have a dynamic IP they can keep coming back
what is a tad annoying :\.
