Vision
I was approached by the customer, who was setting up their business, Successful Science, which is aimed at primary schools and provides after school educational science classes as well as other fun science activities for the children to enjoy. The customer asked me to design a logo, set up an invoicing system and provide branding for all business documents.
Development
Logo
The customer requested a simple logo which was simply text but yet distinctive. After working with the Kite One font before, I knew it would be perfect for this brand which is playful yet serious at the same time. The colours had to be positive, and the two most positive colours from my experience are green and blue so I chose a washed out green and a near cobalt blue. Due to the initials of the brand (SS), I decided to use the S as the main focus, which I could incorporate into a secondary square logo. I decided to make it a bit special by adding some bubbles and a wavy cross section to the colour clash.
Website
The development of the website was minimal as no design work was involved. I purchased the domain for the customer, set up the hosting side of things, installed WordPress to manage the website and added the Hathor theme after showing off many different options.
Branding
Successful Science requested that I make a letterhead that was simple, smart and would not affect their printing costs greatly. With this in mind, I referred back to the palette and used the two colours whenever possible, so that when customers see those colours, they think of Successful Science.
Invoice System
The customer requested an invoicing system that made it easy to input and manage data, with printing capabilities. Building an invoicing system from scratch was a nice challenge, and after a week I presented the concept to the customer who was thrilled with the outcome. I finished it up by adding a way to input services and customers for easy form filling and less data input. Overall, it now takes the customer less than a minute to generate a unique invoice/quote/credit note and print it off.
