Abandoned Projects – I Live in a Shed (2007)
June 28, 2026
Did you know I once owned the domain ILiveInAShed.com? Yeah…
Two Wasted Years
I was a complete bum in sixth form (College), and while it was mostly my own fault, I had some really bad experiences at the start. I originally wanted to do IT, Business Studies and Geography. I was told these lessons would not clash. I started, and the first thing I was told was that I was not doing Geography or Business Studies because they all clashed with my first choice, IT. Not only that, but the head of sixth form constantly called me Steve for some reason. I was pissed, really pissed off. I loved IT, still do, but fuck me doing it for 2 years without any variety? I was bored out of my mind and didn’t feel challenged in the slightest. I was especially bummed because while IT was my career choice, I enjoyed Geography and Business Studies so much.
I also had another issue, none of my friends followed me to sixth form. They, rightly so, went to much better colleges. I quickly made a little group of friends (Marc, Ry (Ryan), Paul, Davies and Quayley) and we basically just spent the entire time goofing off and playing on our PSPs (GTA mostly). It filled the “no fun” void, but it made me very lazy and far too laid back. Ry and I would spend a lot of time playing on Miniclip, watching Fat-Pie videos and obsessing over Weebl’s Stuff, the usual stuff in the mid 2000s for nerdy teens. Me and Ryan were also sat right next to each other in IT, so when we discovered that Macromedia Flash graced our IT systems… we had the same thought “Hey, we could do this too… right?”.
Flash is Hard
Turns out, making flash animations was extremely hard. The best flash animators at the time did everything frame by frame, and the tools to automate movement were awful, and on top of all this, you ideally needed to learn ActionScript. We were persistent though and I made some really basic things.
This was an “intro” to our flash videos, it took forever for me to make this, it was at that moment I realised this would not be a good choice of my time during sixth form.
This was “Pizza Head Dude”, that’s it, there’s no joke.
Retreating to Graphics
Instead, we focused on something we did have experience in: Graphics. Up until this point, I had 3-4 years of basic novice Photoshop experience and Ry had a bit of experience. We decided to go with making comics instead which was less optimistic but it would at least get some of our “creativity” out. The reality was, we had no ideas, we just wanted to do something to kill boredom.
Here’s my “ideas.txt” file from April 2007, prepare to cringe:
- “OMG Monster series” – From what I recall, it was a big round screaming monster that just kept saying “OMG”. So creative.
- “Llama choking on a twix” – This requires zero further explanation.
- “him getting into crazy stuff like at a supermarket at a till where the woman gives him the price and he screams WTF LOL kk, zomg no change m8 shiz LMFAO brb bbq” – I have no words.
- “Power rangers destroying a city, and a guy ontop of a building screams WTF when the zords charge at the city at 1000mph with a theme song playing randomly and a guy with 500 eyes on his body is destroying the city” – A joke on the reality of Power Rangers, where they’re actually the villains for all the damage they cause.
- “Raindeer starts talking normally like “maybe if you had zips on your pockets” santa “dont start” raindeer “alright alright, god..” santa “YOU FUCKING WANKER”” – I have no idea why but this still makes me grin, the idea of Santa having a reindeer that gave him constant grief and won’t let things go.
- “Story about a guy who constantly gets attacked by a hawk and goes crazy” – This was something I really wanted to make, it would ruin the guys life whenever he tried to find happiness, turning him absolutely crazy.
- “Estate agent knocks on bathroom door and someone shouts “I’M HAVING A SHIT!! HANG ON!!”” – Lmao.
- “Bill, the guy who cannot die but goes through pain in strange situations throughout his life… including lava” – I think me and Ry were going to make our second comic based on this one.
- “A welsh lion that gets picked on by 3 goats” – Oddly specific.
- “A gherkin” – Peak comedy.
- “A horse that goes insane at the slightest thing” – Noticing a theme yet?
- “A twitchy panda on steroids” – An early Kung Fu Panda?
- “Give that man a biscuit!” – No clue.
- “Jeremy Kyle parody” – We’d often joke about how bad Jeremy Kyle was. I guess we’d just make up insane situations.
- “Hardcore Pork” – NO CLUE.
- “Special guests:
- Cool spot
- Norris
- Jesus” – What a lovely cast of characters, even Norris from Coronation Street.
We pitched a few ideas for the website name, and ended on “I Live In A Shed” which seemed memorable and funny at the time. I began making the site (Yes, I reuploaded the cringe) and got things ready for whenever we had an idea. Ry made one comic, it wasn’t funny, but it was something and we were very proud of it because it was a start, and that’s what mattered. If I recall correctly, it was a joke about how badly we were procrastinating. Sadly I never kept the comic, but trust me, it wasn’t great. The only image I have of it is a preview thumbnail:
The End
After around 5 months of more procrastinating, we gave up on the comic idea and thought about selling “cool t-shirt designs” instead using CafePress (Which was truly awful at the time).
Here are all 3 that we made, and they’re god hideous.
We shut the website down not long after realising the t-shirts weren’t selling. I ended up making comics and even my own characters decades later, again, because I was bored. The pizza head dude above was actually the basis for “Pizkip“, a silly monster I made.
Overall, a very ambitious project especially for two supposedly busy teenagers.
